  • Kay

    Sashi-Kay Roach (she/her) as an advocate is passionate about creating change for the Black community. As an immigrant, Sashi-Kay recognized that equity and spaces for Black individuals were lacking and this provided the motivation to commit to create such. She is currently pursuing a psychology degree at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.

  • Kanye

    Kanye is a passionate change-maker and relentless strategic innovator, demonstrating radical and inclusive solutions to the Black community’s most urgent needs, co-created with people most affected. Kanye has previously worked with African Descent Festival and collaborated with Black event groups at Simon Fraser University.

  • Khadija

    Khadija Issa is a community organiser and advocate who is passionate about equity and anti-racism. Through her work and studies, she is committed to supporting community engagement and care through access and education. Khadija is a former SOCA (Students of Caribbean and African Ancestry) member at Simon Fraser University and was a SSA (Somali Student Association) executive. She is currently pursuing a social work degree at Douglas College.

  • Taqwa

    Taqwa Ali is an educator who is dedicated to supporting and uplifting youth. She is passionate about creating safe-spaces for racialized youth, through her work as a teacher and as a youth worker. Taqwa is committed to using her experience and education to develop initiatives that support students and educators in combating anti-Black racism.

  • Katrina

    Katrina Mugume is a passionate filmmaker, producer, moderator, and community advocate dedicated to various forms of creativity. Holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film Production from Simon Fraser University's School of Contemporary Arts, she possesses vast expertise in art education, technical editing, creative writing, professional communication, and event coordination. Katrina's involvement extends to co-founding and working with notable non-profit organizations such as the Vancouver International Film Festival and GEMS Vancouver. With a deep fascination for media's power, she remains committed to leveraging her platform to promote social justice and initiate meaningful conversations.
